Crimson Desert Patch 1.02.00: 1000 Slots & Fixes
Pearl Abyss dropped Crimson Desert patch 1.02.00 this week. And for once, a patch actually delivers.
I've been playing since launch, and inventory management was a nightmare. 240 slots filled up faster than a backpack at a convention. But this update? It finally fixes the big stuff.
Let's break down what changed.
Storage increased to 1000 slots
This is the headline. You start with 240 slots. Through camp upgrades, you can now hit 1000 slots. That's four times the original max.
Honestly? Should have been there at launch. But I'll take it.
Some players on Reddit still want a complete inventory rework. One user wrote:
"1000 slots helps but the UI is still clunky. Why do I have to click three times to move one item?"
- Reddit u/grayfox_
Fair point. But for pure capacity, this is a massive win.
Movement controls: Classic vs Basic
Here's something I didn't expect. Pearl Abyss brought back the tap-to-sprint system.
You can now choose:
- Basic: Hold button to sprint
- Classic: Tap repeatedly to sprint
Why does this matter? The classic system gave you better stamina control. You could tap exactly when you needed a burst. The hold system felt more modern but less precise.
My take? I switched back to Classic immediately. Took me an hour to readjust my muscle memory, but worth it.
Fast travel actually works now
Before patch 1.02.00, fast travel had a dumb rule. You had to stand completely still. Couldn't be moving. Couldn't be on a mount. Just... stop.
Now you can fast travel while moving slightly. Mounted fast travel is still being worked on. Pearl Abyss says that's coming in a future patch.
Small change. Big difference in flow.
Helmet visibility toggles
You can now hide your helmet. Finally.
Options include:
- Always show
- Show in combat only
- Hide in cutscenes only
- Always hide
Pearl Abyss also confirmed they're adding a "hide weapon on back" option later. That one's for the fashion hunters out there. (Yes, I'm one of them.)
Combat and gameplay fixes (the long list)
This patch touches a lot of systems. Here's what actually improved:
Jump responsiveness after attacks is better. Before, there was a weird delay. Now your jump registers faster.
Flight skill activation got fixed. It used to cancel randomly mid-air. No longer.
Boss teleport issues are resolved. Remember when the final boss of Chapter 6 would teleport into a wall? Yeah, that's gone.
Parry timing feels more consistent. I tested this on the training dummy for about 20 minutes. The window seems wider now, or maybe I just got better. Hard to say.
Mount stamina usage was adjusted. You can gallop longer before your horse tires out.
Bug fixes that unblocked the game
Some of these were game breaking. I'm serious.
Chapter 6 had a progression blocker. A door wouldn't open. The NPC wouldn't spawn. You were just stuck. Fixed.
Chapter 11 had a similar issue with a quest item not dropping. Also fixed.
Other fixes:
- Invisible character glitch (your model would disappear after cutscenes)
- UI crashes when opening the map in certain regions
- Missing NPCs in side quests (three specific quests were broken)
- Skill reset bugs (your loadout would randomly wipe)
If you were stuck on any of these, patch 1.02.00 is essential.
Graphics and performance
Pearl Abyss improved FSR and DLSS performance. On my RTX 3070, I gained about 8-10 fps in busy areas. Not huge, but noticeable.
Console players on PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X report better upscaling quality. Less shimmering on foliage.
One lingering issue: screen flickering with certain DLSS settings. Pearl Abyss lists this as a known problem. A follow-up patch is coming.
Small but notable additions
Your cat gets armor now. Yes, really. A new cat armor set and helmet.
I put the helmet on my in-game cat and laughed for a solid minute. Totally unnecessary. Totally appreciated.
Environmental interactions also improved. You can open certain doors and chests faster. The animation doesn't hang anymore.
UI readability got a pass. Text is larger in menus. Tooltips actually explain what stats do.
Known issues still remaining
Let me be honest. Not everything is fixed.
- Screen flickering with upscaling (mentioned above)
- Certain quest progression edge cases (rare, but still reported)
- Item effects not applying correctly (some damage buffs don't register)
- Performance drops when toggling DLSS from ultra performance to quality
Pearl Abyss says a hotfix is coming in the next two weeks.
Is the patch worth coming back for?
If you quit because of inventory space? Yes. Come back. 1000 slots changes how you play.
If you quit because of the Chapter 6 blocker? Definitely come back. You can actually finish the game now.
If you were hoping for a complete combat overhaul? No. This isn't that. The core combat is the same. Just smoother.
Bottom Line
Crimson Desert patch 1.02.00 fixes real problems. Not just small stuff. Storage, movement, progression blockers, performance. Pearl Abyss listened.
But here's my honest judgment: this patch should have been the day one version. Launch was rough. Too rough. I nearly bounced off completely.
Now? The game is in a good spot. Not great. Good. If they keep this pace for two more patches, we're talking great.
For now, download the update. Feed your cat some armor. And finally clear out that inventory.
Will Crimson Desert get more storage upgrades in future patches?
Pearl Abyss hasn't confirmed more storage increases beyond 1000 slots. But the camp upgrade system suggests room to grow. Don't expect another jump soon. They want you to engage with the inventory system, not bypass it entirely.
Does patch 1.02.00 fix the Chapter 6 quest bug?
Yes. The Chapter 6 progression blocker where a door wouldn't open is resolved. Same for the Chapter 11 missing item drop. If you were stuck, load your save and the quest should continue normally.
Is classic movement control better than basic?
Depends on your preference. Classic (tap to sprint) gives finer stamina control. Basic (hold to sprint) is simpler. I prefer Classic because I played the original build. Try both for an hour each. You'll know.
